The Ultimate Recovery
in Daily Recovery Devotional by Unforced Rhythms
Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good-crucified. Galatians 5:24 MSG
Being restored to sanity is learning to let go of wanting everything our way. When we stop listening to the world telling us what is important, we begin the process of being restored to sanity. The chains of self seeking begin to lose their grip on us. We grow in Christ and we learn that what he wants for us is far more than we ever wanted for ourselves.
Christ restores us to sanity. He is the power greater than ourselves. The insanity of our lives was living our life without Him. For many of us, our real reason for being in recovery is because we lived years without Christ in our lives. Some of us even address ourselves in meetings as recovering from not having Christ in our lives. This is the ultimate recovery. Because not having Christ in our lives was the ultimate insanity.
Being restored to sanity means we let go of what we think is important, what the world tells us is important and we release ourselves to Christ. That old part of us that thinks we can do it without Christ has to be crucified. Only then can we experience sanity and come into contact with what is real.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV
Heavenly Father, thank you for your son Jesus Christ. It is only through relationship with Him that I am sane. My eyes have been opened and I can see. What a beautiful day it is. You fill me with Christ’s power and love. Today I will focus on the gift of living in Christ and in sanity.
